Acupuncture
A helping hand for pain and tension
Western medical acupuncture, including electroacupuncture, used as part of a joined up treatment plan.
What it is
Western medical acupuncture involves placing very fine, sterile, single use needles into specific points in the body. Grounded in modern anatomy and physiology, it is used to help ease muscular pain and tension and to support the body's own responses. At Hands On Health Clinic it is offered as an adjunct to hands on treatment, chosen where the evidence supports it and where it fits your wider plan. Where helpful, electroacupuncture may be used to add a gentle stimulus.
What it helps with
- Muscular aches and tension
- Neck, shoulder and back discomfort
- Some types of tension headache
- Areas of tightness linked to overuse
- Support for recovery alongside other treatment
What to expect at your appointment
- A consultation to discuss your symptoms and whether acupuncture is suitable.
- An explanation of how the treatment works and what you will feel.
- Fine, single use needles are placed and left in place for a short time.
- You rest comfortably while the treatment takes effect.
- We review your response and build acupuncture into your plan where it helps.
Who it suits
Acupuncture suits people who are open to a complementary approach as part of a broader treatment plan, particularly for muscular pain and tension. It is not right for everyone, so we always talk it through first and are honest about whether it is likely to help you. Ask about acupuncture when you book and we will let you know how it could fit alongside your care.
